Scholarship Details

The ECOWAS Youth Employability Project (ECOWAS-YEP) is implemented under the ECOWAS Strategy on Youth Employability by the Association of Organic Agriculture Practitioners of Nigeria (NOAN).

This initiative is focused on boosting the Agro-Sylvo-Pastoral Heuristics and agri-food value chains in Nigeria by unlocking the potential of young people. Through this project, ECOWAS seeks to promote sustainable agricultural practices and empower youth for socio-professional integration, which in turn is expected to reduce youth unemployment and discourage irregular migration.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the ECOWAS-YEP 2025 program, applicants must:

  • Be Nigerian youth between the ages of 18 and 35
  • Demonstrate a genuine interest in agriculture, organic farming, and agri-food value chains
  • Women and individuals from marginalized groups are especially encouraged to apply

Training Schedule and Modules

The ECOWAS-YEP training is divided into four structured modules:

  • Module 1: General Courses (Compulsory for All Trainees)
    • Location: Online
    • Duration: 1 month
    • Course Content: Certification in Organic Agriculture, Business Plan Development, Cooperative Development, Record Keeping
  • Module 2: Training on Input Production
    • Location: Ibadan
    • Duration: 2 months (2 weeks physical, 6 weeks virtual)
    • Course Content: Compost Making, Organic Pesticide Production, Liquid Fertilizer Formulation
  • Module 3: Training on Vegetable, Vines and Yam Sets
    • Location: Umudike, Abia State
    • Duration: 5 months (8 weeks physical, 12 weeks virtual)
    • Course Content: Potato Vine Cultivation, Vegetable Crop Production, Yam Set Preparation
  • Module 4: Training on Sesame and Ginger Value Chain
    • Location: Zaria
    • Duration: 6 months (8 weeks physical, 16 weeks virtual)
    • Course Content: Sesame Cultivation, Ginger Production and Value Addition
