The Evans Global Fellowship provides an unrivaled opportunity for an exceptional early career journalist mentored by top Reuters editors in the field while being overseen by Durham University and having access to university academics and research resources.
The Durham University Global Fellowship was created in honor of Sir Harry Evans, one of the pioneers of modern investigative journalism, and is designed to give the applicant the chance to develop rigorous, fact-based research and reporting skills.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the Durham University Global Fellowship 2026, applicants must:
- Be early in their careers with professional journalism experience
- Applications may also be considered from individuals who:
- Have worked in an investigative capacity in a related professional field
- Led human rights or other socio-political publications or campaigns
- Worked as authors or researchers on authoritative investigative work
- Developed in-field photo/video research projects, documentaries, or exhibitions
Fellowship Benefits
The Sir Harry Evans Global Fellowship offers:
- Monthly salary of approximately £4,444 per month
(equivalent to a pro-rata salary of approximately £53,333 per year) - Maximum £1,250 monthly living stipend
- One-off payment of £1,800 for travel and relocation expenses
- Access to Durham University’s research community and academic supervision
- Placement at Reuters newsroom in London or other approved partner
- For applicants on leave from a current employer:
- Durham University will pay up to £12,000 to the employer to cover temporary staffing (subject to terms)
