Program Details
The Commonwealth Routledge Studentship is awarded annually to support PhD students conducting research on topics of Commonwealth relevance. The initiative is part of the commitment by The Round Table Journal and Routledge, in association with the ACU, to deepen understanding of the Commonwealth through academic inquiry.
Research proposals are welcome from a broad spectrum of humanities and social science disciplines, including (but not limited to) politics, international relations, economics, law, development studies, international history, geography, and area studies.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the 2025 Routledge Commonwealth Studentship, applicants must:
Be one of the following:
- A PhD student at a UK university (citizenship not required)
- A registered PhD student at an ACU member university in any Commonwealth country (excluding the UK)
- A Chevening or Commonwealth Scholarship alumnus currently pursuing a PhD in any Commonwealth university outside the UK
Submit a proposed research project that:
- Focuses on the Commonwealth as a whole, or a Commonwealth-wide institution/organization
- Has a strong comparative aspect across Commonwealth countries
- Is relevant to a Commonwealth country other than the UK
Studentship Value and Duration
- Two studentships will be awarded annually
- Each award is valued at £5,500 (GBP)
- Funds are meant to support fieldwork, travel, materials, or other relevant research expenses
