The Chevening Fellowship 2026 is a fully funded opportunity covering tuition, living expenses, and return airfare for selected candidates to spend three months in the United Kingdom as visiting fellows at the University of Dundee.

Scholarship Details
The Chevening Energy Market Reform Fellowship offers experienced professionals and senior officials in China’s energy sector the opportunity to participate in a three-month fellowship at the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP), University of Dundee. Funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), the fellowship is part of the UK-China Energy Dialogue and aims to strengthen knowledge and collaboration in energy market reforms.
Fellows will conduct independent research with guidance from an academic supervisor. They will also have access to lectures, seminars, and classes that support their area of study. Applicants are expected to propose a research project aligned with the programme’s goals, which will be discussed during the selection interview with University of Dundee faculty. Fellows will also participate in a variety of cultural and professional development activities coordinated by Chevening and the FCDO.
Eligibility Criteria
To be qualified for the Chevening Energy Market Reform Fellowship, applicants must:
- Agree to adhere to all relevant guidelines and expectations for the programme
- Hold a postgraduate qualification or have equivalent professional experience/training
- Have at least 5 years of significant and relevant professional experience
- Be currently employed or enrolled in a PhD program (PhD must not be with a UK, EU, or US university)
- Not hold dual nationality with the UK (except for exempt categories listed in the Chevening guidelines)
- Not be an employee, former employee, or relative of an employee of His Majesty’s Government, the British Council, a sponsoring UK university, or the Association of Commonwealth Universities (within the last two years)
- Intend to return to China after completing the fellowship

Additional Requirements
- Applicants who have previously received HMG-funded scholarships or fellowships are eligible after five years of completion, and must show career progression
- Applicants who are employees, former employees, or relatives of Chevening Partner organisations are eligible, but cannot receive a Partner Award from the same organisation if the employment was within the past two years
- Relatives include: parents or step-parents, siblings or step-siblings, children or step-children, spouse, civil partner, or long-term partner (minimum of two years cohabitation)
