The British Council GREAT Scholarships program provides opportunities for eligible students from selected countries to pursue postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom. For the 2026/27 academic session, more than 140 scholarships will be awarded across over 60 universities in England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.
Each scholarship offers financial support to help international students access world-class education in the UK.

Scholarship Details
The British Council GREAT Scholarships are jointly funded by the UK Government’s GREAT Britain Campaign and the British Council, in collaboration with participating UK universities. The purpose of the scholarship is to support academically capable students to study in the UK while promoting strong academic and cultural relationships between the UK and each participating country.
Selected scholars will also have the opportunity to attend a welcome event during the first semester and a networking gathering in the second semester, where they can connect with fellow scholars, build relationships, and share experiences studying in the UK.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the British Council GREAT Scholarship, applicants must:
- Be a citizen of one of the eligible countries (see list below)
- Have completed an undergraduate degree and be academically motivated
- Show interest and commitment to the chosen field of study
- Meet the English language requirements of the UK higher education institution
- Demonstrate readiness to engage academically and personally within the UK environment
- Be willing to attend networking and engagement events with other GREAT scholars
- Be open to maintaining contact with the British Council and act as an ambassador for the scholarship program even after completion
