Program Details

The American University in Cairo African Graduate Fellowship is awarded for a maximum period of five semesters and one intervening summer session, subject to a semester-by-semester review based on satisfactory academic performance. Each year, the fellowship is offered to nationals of African countries, excluding Egyptians, who are admitted for full-time graduate study at AUC.

Eligible fellows are required to enroll in a minimum of nine credits per semester, or as stipulated by their chosen graduate programme, across any of the graduate disciplines offered by the university. For candidates admitted into the Counseling Psychology graduate programme, the fellowship duration may be extended to a maximum of seven semesters, depending on programme requirements.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the 2026 American University in Cairo African Graduate Fellowship, applicants must:

  • Be non-Egyptian African nationals
  • Note that African nationals with dual non-African nationality are not eligible
  • Be applying to or enrolled in any AUC graduate programme (open to all disciplines)
  • For new applicants, secure admission into a graduate degree programme at AUC and meet all graduate admission requirements
  • Submit a valid International TOEFL iBT or Academic IELTS score in line with AUC’s graduate admission cut-off scores
  • For continuing students, maintain a minimum GPA of 3.2 to retain the fellowship

Successful recipients of the AUC African Graduate Fellowship will receive coverage for:

  • Tuition fees for up to nine credits per semester

  • Medical services and health insurance fees
