Scholarship Details
The University of Tokyo Amgen Scholars Program is designed to provide undergraduate students who are considering a future career in biology or related scientific fields with an eight-week research experience in biomedical and life science laboratories.
Each selected student will be assigned to a research laboratory led by a distinguished professor from one of the participating graduate schools and institutes, including the Graduate School of Science, Graduate School of Engineering, Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences, and the Institute of Industrial Science. The program aims to strengthen research capability, support academic development, and inspire participants to pursue advanced graduate studies.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the University of Tokyo Amgen Scholarship, applicants must:
- Be currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program at a university in the Asia region
- Have completed at least their first year of undergraduate study before the program begins
- Not be graduating before the program begins, and must return to continue undergraduate studies for at least one academic term after the program ends
- Have a strong academic record
- Have sufficient English proficiency (minimum TOEFL iBT 72 or equivalent)
- Have an interest in pursuing a PhD in the future
Scholarship Benefits
Participants will receive:
- Accommodation throughout the program
- Stipend: 270,000 JPY (for meals, daily expenses, and personal spending)
- Travel Cost:
- Economy-class airfare for international participants
- Round-trip train tickets for Japanese domestic students
- Travel arrangements will be made based on the most economical route
