Fellowship Details
The Al Jazeera Fellowship Programme offers journalists and media researchers the opportunity to produce a 7,000-word research paper on an approved topic within the field of journalism and media. Participants will engage with newsroom teams, editors, media professionals, and researchers, gaining practical insight into global news production.
The fellowship focuses on promoting academic and industry-driven research addressing emerging trends, challenges, and ethical considerations within journalism.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the 2026 Al Jazeera Fellowship Programme, applicants must:
- Hold at least a Bachelor’s Degree
- Be a full-time journalist or researcher (freelance or employed)
- Have a minimum of 4 years professional experience in journalism or research
- Demonstrate strong research and writing ability
- Be fluent in English (speaking and writing)
- Have the ability to write in formal English academic style
- Note: The English Fellowship is open only to applicants from non-Arab countries (Arabic speakers may apply to the Arabic Fellowship Programme)
Duration and Programme Structure
The fellowship runs for two months, divided into two stages:
- Phase 1 (Remote): Submission of research plan and introductory sections
- Phase 2 (On-site at Al Jazeera Headquarters): Completion and final submission of research paper
