Scholarship Details
The Rotary Yoneyama Scholarship for Overseas Candidates is open to international students residing outside Japan who plan to pursue a Master’s or Doctoral degree at Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU) starting in April 2026.
Applicants must apply separately to both APU and the Rotary Yoneyama Memorial Foundation, and ensure they understand the application processes for both institutions. Selected students will receive full support throughout their study period, along with a letter of recommendation from APU following admission results.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Rotary Yoneyama Scholarship 2026, applicants must:
- Not hold Japanese nationality (this includes dual nationality holders)
- Be residing outside Japan at the time of application
- Obtain a valid student visa to study in Japan
- Have not stayed in Japan for more than 31 days in total, unless due to family circumstances or as part of the Rotary Youth Exchange Program
- Be born after April 2, 1980
- Have Japanese language proficiency at JLPT N4 level or higher
- Not have previously received the Rotary Yoneyama Scholarship
Scholarship Benefits
Successful applicants of the Rotary Yoneyama Scholarship 2026 will receive:
- ¥140,000 monthly stipend
- For Master’s students: 2 years
- For Doctoral students: 2 years
- Reimbursement of economy air travel and other travel-related expenses (up to ¥250,000 after arrival in Japan)

- Provide all academic documents and personal information as required by both APU and the scholarship foundation
- Receive a Letter of Recommendation from APU (after admission notification)
- Submit the recommendation letter to the Rotary Yoneyama Memorial Foundation

To apply for the Rotary Yoneyama Scholarship 2026:
- Indicate interest in the scholarship through the APU Online Application System and complete the application by October 20, 2025, for April 2026 enrollment
- Apply directly to the Rotary Yoneyama Memorial Foundation around October 2025
- Notify the Foundation that the Letter of Recommendation from APU will be submitted after admissions results
- Submit the Letter of Recommendation to the scholarship organization upon receipt
