Scholarship Details

The African Development Bank Internship Program is designed to provide young professionals with practical experience while supporting the Bank’s work toward inclusive and sustainable economic growth across Africa. The program forms part of the Bank’s broader Talent Management Framework and contributes to the implementation of its Ten-Year Strategy (2023–2032) and the High 5s.

The Bank’s strategic priorities focus on key areas that can accelerate development across Africa, including energy, agro-business, industrialization, regional integration, and improving the quality of life for African people. Interns are selected competitively based on the business needs and available opportunities within the Bank.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the African Development Bank Internship, applicants must:

  • Be 30 years old or younger by December 31, 2026.
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree and be currently enrolled in a master’s degree program at a recognized public or private higher institution, or apply for the internship within one year of obtaining a master’s degree.
  • Provide proof of enrollment in a university, professional institution, or school.
  • Be a citizen of an African Development Bank member country.
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills in English or French, with a working knowledge of the other language.
  • Female candidates are particularly encouraged to apply.

In addition to the minimum requirements, preference may be given to applicants who demonstrate:

  • Adaptability to multicultural environments.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of a third language relevant to the Bank’s operations.
  • Experience working on projects that directly contribute to the Bank’s development objectives.
Scholarship Benefits

Successful interns under the African Development Bank Internship Program will receive:

  • A monthly stipend for the duration of the internship.
  • Medical insurance coverage provided by the Bank during the internship.
  • An internship placement lasting at least three months and not more than six months.
  • The opportunity to complete the internship either remotely or on-site, depending on the requirements of the hiring unit.
  • Reasonable assistance from the Bank in obtaining entry and residence visas where applicable.

For remote internships, selected candidates are expected to have access to a personal computer, reliable internet connection, and a suitable environment for uninterrupted remote work. Candidates selected for on-site internships will be responsible for their travel arrangements to and from the Bank’s location, as well as their personal upkeep.
