A total of 3,625 candidates have registered for the Science Placement Examination organised by the Education Resource Centre (ERC) of the FCT Education Secretariat for admission into six science and technical schools in Abuja.
The examination was conducted at designated centres across the Federal Capital Territory as part of efforts by the FCT Administration to provide qualified students with opportunities to pursue science and technical education.
Speaking while monitoring the exercise, the Director of the Education Resource Centre, Dr Neemat Abdulrahim, said the examination was conducted in an orderly and coordinated manner, with adequate measures in place to ensure effective administration and monitoring.
A statement issued by the Information Office of the Education Secretariat said the Centre had strengthened its examination management and monitoring procedures to provide candidates with conducive environments and ensure compliance with established guidelines.
Abdulrahim also commended the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for the ongoing renovation and upgrading of public school facilities, noting that the improvements had enhanced the conduct of examinations.
She said the renovation of school halls in some public schools had created larger and more suitable spaces, allowing the ERC to consolidate examination centres and reduce the number of locations compared with previous years.
“Previously, examinations were conducted in more than 16 school centres, which made monitoring more demanding, as our teams had to move from one school to another across different locations.
“With the improvement of school halls, we are now able to utilise fewer centres with appropriate and conducive spaces for candidates. This has made the monitoring exercise more coordinated and efficient,” she said.
The director stressed that effective planning, coordination and supervision, as well as the commitment of examination officials, school authorities and other stakeholders, were essential to the successful conduct of examinations.
She also appealed to parents and guardians who gathered around the examination centres to remain patient and security-conscious while waiting for their children and wards.
Some candidates expressed enthusiasm about the examination, describing admission into the schools as an important opportunity to pursue careers in science and technology.
They said the schools would provide a strong foundation for further studies and careers in fields such as Medicine, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Science and Engineering.
The six schools participating in the placement exercise are Government Science and Technical College, Area 3, Garki; Government Science Secondary School, Maitama; Government Science Secondary School, Abaji; Government Girls Science Secondary School, Kuje; Government Science and Technical College, Kwali; and Government Science Secondary School, Bwari.
The Education Resource Centre reaffirmed its commitment to improving examination administration, monitoring and assessment processes to ensure credible, transparent and efficient examinations across the FCT.
