The Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) has debunked a fake document circulating in the public domain that falsely claims the Council is seeking financial support for the production, printing and nationwide distribution of the Revised Basic Education Curriculum (BEC) for the 2026/2027 academic session.
In a disclaimer issued on Monday in Abuja, the Executive Secretary of NERDC, Professor Salisu Shehu, described the document as false, unauthorised and misleading.
The statement, personally signed by Professor Shehu and made available to journalists, clarified that the Council had not issued any correspondence requesting financial assistance from any organisation or institution for the production, printing or distribution of the revised curriculum.
According to the statement, NERDC’s attention had been drawn to what it described as “fictitious and frivolous” documents falsely presented as official communications from the Council, soliciting financial support for the curriculum distribution exercise.
The Council categorically denied authorising any such request, stressing that it had not, under any circumstance, sought funding from external institutions for the production or nationwide dissemination of the Revised Basic Education Curriculum.
NERDC explained that adequate arrangements had already been made to ensure the effective production, printing, dissemination and distribution of the curriculum through the appropriate federal and state education authorities, agencies and relevant departments.
Professor Shehu urged government agencies, educational institutions, development partners, stakeholders and members of the public to disregard any document or correspondence claiming to originate from NERDC and requesting financial support for the exercise.
He also reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to maintaining transparency, professionalism and integrity in all its official communications while protecting the credibility of Nigeria’s national curriculum.
The Council further assured stakeholders that all authentic information regarding the Revised Basic Education Curriculum would only be released through its official communication channels.
