Scholarship Details

Dr. Joshua Banta’s laboratory at the University of Texas at Tyler is currently seeking applications from qualified candidates for a fully funded Master of Science (MS) in Biology position beginning in Fall 2026.

The University of Texas at Tyler is a rapidly expanding institution and a member of the highly respected University of Texas System. Located in Tyler, Texas, the university serves a vibrant metropolitan area that functions as the economic and educational center of Northeast Texas.

The selected student will participate in research focused on the genetics and ecology of snake fungal disease in Texas. The program includes extensive fieldwork involving snake populations during the summer months.

The Master’s program will run for four semesters, beginning in mid-August 2026 and concluding in May 2028 with a thesis defense and graduation.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the University of Texas Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Biology or a closely related discipline such as:
    • Ecology
    • Environmental Science
    • Environmental Studies
  • Be willing to conduct fieldwork in hot summer conditions in Texas.
