The Canada Graduate Research Scholarship — Doctoral (CGRS D) Program is designed to recognize, support, and develop the next generation of exceptional researchers, innovators, knowledge creators, and critical thinkers. The scholarship promotes research excellence across a broad range of disciplines, including health sciences, natural sciences, engineering, social sciences, humanities, as well as interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary fields of study.

Eligibility Criteria

To be qualified for the Canada Graduate Research Scholarship (Doctoral), applicants must:

  • Be one of the following:
    • Canadian Citizen
    • Permanent Resident of Canada
    • Protected Person in Canada
  • Or be an International Student currently enrolled in a PhD program at a Canadian university
  • Have completed no more than 36 months of full-time doctoral study, including summer semesters, by December 31 of the year of application
  • Be enrolled in or applying to an eligible doctoral program
  • Students enrolled in joint programs may also apply, including:
    • MD/PhD
    • MA/PhD
    • MBA/PhD
    • Other combined doctoral programs
  • Ensure that the program contains a substantial research component such as:
    • Thesis
    • Dissertation
    • Equivalent Research Project
