The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has refuted reports suggesting that the Federal Government has halted the payment of upkeep allowances to beneficiaries under the student loan scheme.

In a statement released by its Director of Strategic Communications, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, the agency described the claims circulating on social media and various online platforms as false and misleading.

According to NELFUND, there has been no directive from either the Federal Government or the Fund suspending the disbursement of upkeep allowances to students. The agency stressed that the information being shared online is entirely fabricated and should not be regarded as authentic.

NELFUND further clarified that the reports did not originate from any official government source and urged students, parents, and the general public to disregard the publications.

The Fund reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the transparent and efficient disbursement of student loans and upkeep support in line with its mandate of expanding access to higher education for Nigerians.

It also warned against the spread of unverified information, noting that false reports have the potential to create unnecessary anxiety, confusion, and uncertainty among students and their families.

NELFUND advised members of the public to rely only on information released through its official communication channels and other credible media sources when seeking updates about the student loan programme.

The agency reiterated its dedication to supporting Nigerian students through sustainable education financing initiatives and encouraged anyone seeking clarification or additional information to contact the Fund through its official platforms.
