Scholarship Details

Eligibility Criteria

To be qualified for the Harvard Radcliffe Fellowship, applicants in the humanities and social sciences must:

  • Hold a doctorate or appropriate terminal degree obtained at least two years before the fellowship appointment.
  • Possess a strong publication record, including a monograph or at least two articles published in refereed journals or edited collections.

Applicants in science, engineering, and mathematics must:

  • Hold a doctorate related to the proposed project earned at least two years before the fellowship year.
  • Have published at least five articles in refereed journals.

Applicants in creative arts must meet discipline-specific requirements, including:

Film and Video

  • Demonstrate significant independent work shown at festivals, galleries, museums, or broadcast platforms.

Visual Arts

  • Have at least five years of professional artistic practice.
  • Participate in curated group exhibitions and at least two solo exhibitions.

Fiction and Nonfiction

Applicants must have:

  • One or more published books, or
  • A publishing contract for a book-length manuscript, or
  • At least three substantial published shorter works.

Poetry

  • Have published at least 20 poems or one poetry collection within the last five years.
  • Be currently completing a manuscript.

Journalism

  • Have a minimum of five years of professional journalism experience.

Playwriting

  • Present a substantial body of independently produced or optioned plays.

Music Composition

  • Demonstrate strong evidence of achievement through recent performances and professional artistic work.
