The National Examinations Council has announced that there will be no extension for the registration of candidates for the 2026 Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE).
In a statement issued by the Registrar and Chief Executive of NECO, Dantani Wushishi on X on Friday, schools, proprietors, principals, and commandants of secondary schools were reminded to ensure that all candidate registrations are completed before the stipulated deadlines.
According to the statement, Monday, May 25, 2026, has been fixed as the final date for normal registration, while Friday, May 29, 2026, is the deadline for late registration, stressing that there will be no further extension beyond these dates.
NECO urged schools across the country to strictly comply with the timelines to ensure that all eligible candidates are properly registered and adequately prepared for the 2026 examination cycle.
The registrar explained that compliance with the deadlines is essential for the smooth organisation and administration of the SSCE, which remains one of the key national examinations used to determine students’ eligibility for tertiary education, scholarships, and other post-secondary opportunities.
He warned that failure to complete the registration process within the approved period could prevent candidates from participating in the examination, potentially affecting their academic progression.
The council noted that the announcement forms part of its efforts to ensure efficient examination planning and to keep all stakeholders informed about important registration timelines.
