The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced plans to inaugurate the newly reconstructed Tolu Schools Complex located in Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area.

The Tolu Schools Complex, situated on 11.73 hectares of land in the well-known Ajegunle area, is a cluster of 36 schools, including five primary schools, 16 junior secondary schools, and 15 senior secondary schools. With this large number of institutions within a single location, the complex is believed to be one of the largest school communities in Africa.

Originally established during the administration of former Lagos governor Lateef Jakande in the 1980s, the complex has undergone several upgrades under successive governments. The latest reconstruction has introduced modern classroom blocks, staff offices, toilet facilities, football fields, basketball courts, and other essential infrastructure, all designed to create a conducive learning environment for students. The upgraded facility is expected to accommodate over 20,000 students.

Governor Sanwo-Olu visited the complex on April 1 to assess the progress of the reconstruction work. During the inspection, he toured the facility alongside the Chairman of Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government, Olamilekan Akindipe, and other officials.

Following the inspection, the governor expressed satisfaction with the quality and level of work carried out on the project, describing it as commendable. He reiterated that education remains a top priority for his administration, noting that the state government will continue to invest in initiatives that guarantee students access to quality education.

Sanwo-Olu also appreciated the warm reception he received from residents and students during his visit, stating that their continued support motivates the government to remain committed to delivering impactful projects.

Earlier in his remarks, Akindipe praised the governor’s leadership and thanked him for what he described as consistent support for the local government. He revealed that his administration recently introduced a free school shuttle bus scheme aimed at transporting students to and from schools across the local government area.

According to him, the initiative was introduced to ease transportation difficulties faced by students and reduce the financial burden on parents. The program, known as the “Renewed Hope School Shuttle Bus Scheme (RHSSS),” is also expected to contribute positively to students’ academic performance.

Akindipe further emphasized that the transformation of the Tolu Schools Complex represents a major step forward for education in the area. He expressed optimism that the improved facility would help nurture future intellectuals, innovators, and inventors who will contribute to the development of Lagos State and Nigeria.

The Tolu Schools Complex is scheduled to be officially commissioned later this month, marking a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to strengthen public education.

Among other dignitaries present during the governor’s visit were the former Chairman of Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government, Fatai Ayoola, as well as members of the Lagos State House of Assembly, including Sabur Akanbi Oluwa and Sa’ad Lukman Olumoh, among others.
