The scholarship was established in 2008 in honor of John Thompson, a highly respected and influential figure in the Irish media industry who contributed significantly to the development of modern journalism and publishing in Ireland.
During his nearly three-decade career, John Thompson played a key role in the launch and growth of several prominent publications, including U Magazine, The Sunday World, and The Irish Farmers Journal. He also held major leadership positions in the media industry, serving as Chief Executive of Associated Newspapers Ireland and Managing Director at Independent Star Limited.
Through this scholarship, DCU Business School continues to honor his legacy by supporting talented students who wish to pursue careers in digital marketing, media, and communications.
