Two M.S.-level Graduate Research Assistantships will be available at Southern Illinois University beginning in Summer or Fall 2026. Each assistantship focuses on a specific research project within the field of forest and wildlife ecology. One project will continue ongoing research examining how forest management practices affect nightjars, particularly the eastern whip-poor-will and chuck-will’s-widow, in southern Illinois. This project is expected to commence in May 2026.

The second research project will study the stand dynamics of bottomland forest plantations following the decline of ash trees and the increasing presence of invasive plant species.
