Program Details

The WTO Young Trade Leaders Program is created to promote a deeper understanding of global trade and the activities of the World Trade Organization among young individuals worldwide. Through this initiative, the WTO seeks to build a global network of “Young Trade Leaders” who can contribute fresh ideas and perspectives on the role of trade in sustainable development.

Selected participants will be recognized as outstanding young individuals who understand how international trade can positively impact both people and the planet. They will also have opportunities to share their insights, engage with global trade discussions, and help raise awareness about the importance of international trade in addressing global challenges.

Throughout the program, participants will learn more about the operations of the WTO while supporting initiatives that promote dialogue and understanding around trade-related topics.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the WTO Young Trade Leaders Program 2026, applicants must:

  • Be between 18 and 30 years old by the application deadline
  • Have a strong interest in international trade and global economic development
  • Be a citizen of a WTO member country
  • Not currently work with the WTO and must not have a relative currently affiliated with the organization
  • Demonstrate strong written and spoken English skills
  • Knowledge of an additional WTO working language (French or Spanish) will be an advantage
  • Show diplomatic awareness and respect for diverse perspectives
  • Be willing to encourage dialogue and understanding around trade issues
  • Be fully committed to participating throughout the one-year program

Required Documents

To apply for the program, applicants must prepare the following documents:

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV) – maximum of two pages
  • A 2–3 minute video introducing yourself, explaining your interest in the program, and describing the impact you hope to make as a Young Trade Leader
  • A written submission (maximum 300 words) answering the question:
    “How can trade positively contribute to people and planet?”
