The FAO Hungarian Government Scholarship 2026 is now open for applications from qualified candidates in developing countries who wish to pursue a Master’s degree in Europe.

This fully funded scholarship is jointly sponsored by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations and the Government of Hungary, and it supports selected students with tuition, accommodation, living expenses, health insurance, and academic materials throughout the study period.

Scholarship Details

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations committed to leading global efforts toward ending hunger and improving food security worldwide. In collaboration with the Government of Hungary, FAO established the Hungarian Government Scholarship Programme to support the training of highly skilled professionals who can contribute to agricultural development, food systems sustainability, and rural transformation in their home countries.

The scholarship offers selected candidates the opportunity to study at reputable Hungarian universities, gain advanced academic and practical knowledge, and apply their expertise toward national and global development goals. For the 2025–2026 academic session, the programme focuses on agriculture-related disciplines taught in English at participating institutions in Hungary.

The following Master of Science degree programmes are available:

  • Master in Agricultural Biotechnology – Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Szent István Campus, Gödöllő
  • Master in Animal Nutrition and Feed Safety Engineering – Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Kaposvár Campus, Kaposvár
  • Master in Plant Protection – University of Debrecen, Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences and Environmental Management, Debrecen

Eligibility Criteria

To be qualified for the FAO Hungarian Government Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be a citizen and resident of one of the eligible developing countries
  • Demonstrate excellent academic performance
  • Possess adequate English language proficiency for programmes taught in English
  • Show strong motivation and commitment to the field of study
  • Be in good physical and mental health
  • Preferably be under 30 years of age at the time of application

How to Apply

To apply for the FAO Hungarian Government Scholarship:

Selection Procedure

  • Phase 1: FAO will conduct a preliminary screening of applications and forward shortlisted candidates to the Ministry of Agriculture of Hungary, which will then transmit the applications to the selected universities. Only complete and properly labeled applications will be considered.
  • Phase 2: Shortlisted candidates may be required to sit for a written or oral English examination as part of the university admission process. Final selection will be carried out solely by the participating universities, with successful candidates notified by both the university and the Hungarian Ministry.
