Scholarship Details
The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), a Federal Government agency mandated to develop indigenous human capacity and petroleum technology to meet the needs of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for its 2026 Overseas Scholarship Programme.
The PTDF Overseas Scholarship Scheme was established to provide beneficiaries with access to a diversified pool of knowledge and world-class facilities offered by leading institutions across the globe. The scheme is strategically designed to nurture indigenous talent for the Nigerian oil and gas sector and has been recently restructured to further promote the domestication of capacity development within Nigeria.
New Updates on 2026/27 PTDF Overseas Scholarship Scheme
- Fully funded MSc scholarships will be offered in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Malaysia
- Fully funded PhD scholarships will be offered in Germany, France, and Malaysia
- Fully funded PhD scholarships for the United Kingdom will now be offered exclusively as a Split-Site Programme at the PTDF College of Petroleum & Energy Studies, Kaduna (CPESK) in collaboration with the following UK partner universities:

- University of Strathclyde
- University of Portsmouth
Eligibility Criteria
MSc Requirements
- Minimum of Second Class Upper (2.1) in the first degree, or Second Class Lower (2.2) with relevant industry experience
- Completion of the mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC)
- Computer literacy
- Possession of five (5) O’Level credits, including English Language and Mathematics
- Statement of Purpose (maximum of 500 words) explaining the reason for the proposed study, its relevance to the industry, and its expected impact on national development
- Possession of a National Identity Number (NIN) with verified NIMC details (verification charges apply)
PhD Requirements
- Completion of the mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC)
- Computer literacy
- Possession of five (5) O’Level credits, including English Language and Mathematics
- Minimum of Second Class Lower (2.2) in the first degree and a good postgraduate degree
- Submission of a research proposal relevant to the oil and gas industry (not more than five pages) to include topic, introduction, objectives, methodology, and mode of data collection
