The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced plans to adopt and implement a standardised protocol for the inclusive management of corps members with disabilities during the orientation course and throughout the service year. NYSC Director-General, Olakunle Nafiu, made the disclosure on Wednesday in Jos at the opening ceremony of the NYSC 2026 pre-orientation workshop.
Nafiu explained that the initiative is not just about compliance but also about ensuring dignity, inclusion, and equal opportunity for all corps members. “It emphasises our commitment to leaving no one behind and positioning the NYSC as a humane, progressive, and nationally responsive institution,” he said.
Describing the pre-orientation workshop as a strategic platform rather than a routine administrative exercise, the director-general noted that it provides an opportunity for critical planning and reflection ahead of the orientation course, which he called the bedrock of the NYSC service year, where service begins, character is forged, and citizenship is affirmed.
He highlighted the importance of continuously reimagining the orientation programme in line with national realities, global best practices, and evolving youth behaviour. Nafiu commended the dedication and professionalism of NYSC management and camp officials, particularly praising the smooth conduct of the 2025 Batch ‘C’ Orientation exercise, which he said reflected teamwork and institutional discipline.
Looking ahead, Nafiu said the 2026 workshop will feature innovative sessions, an open-mic discussion to address emerging challenges, improved camp management strategies, enhanced stakeholder collaboration, and the introduction of practical training modules to equip corps members with skills applicable after camp.
He urged participants to actively engage in the workshop to produce practical and actionable outcomes that will strengthen the orientation course across the country.
