FG Adds National Mathematical Centre, Other Specialised Institutions to TETFund Beneficiary List

The Federal Government has approved the inclusion of four specialised education agencies—among them the National Mathematical Centre (NMC)—as new beneficiaries of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).

The other institutions now eligible to access the intervention fund are the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies, the Nigerian French Language Village, and the Nigerian Arabic Language Village.

Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, announced the development during the National Council of Education (NCE) meeting, noting that the decision is aimed at strengthening specialised learning and improving the quality of research and training across the country.

He explained that the institutions play vital roles in advancing language studies, promoting mathematical excellence, and supporting broader national education priorities. Their inclusion followed a detailed review of their mandates and the need to align their funding with national and global demands.

Alausa added that access to TETFund resources will help the four centres enhance infrastructure, upgrade academic programmes, and expand capacity-building initiatives for both staff and students. He stressed that the move reflects the government’s commitment to equitable distribution of educational resources, particularly among institutions offering specialised training.

“I am happy to announce that our four inter-university centres… can now access TETFund,” he said. “This will put these institutions on firm financial footing to fulfil their mandates now and in the future.”

According to The Guardian, more than 260 institutions currently benefit from TETFund interventions, including 82 public universities, 64 polytechnics, and 69 colleges of education.
