Scholarship Details

The DAAD administers the Hilde Domin Programme with funding from the German Federal Foreign Office, offering an opportunity for students and doctoral candidates who face formal or informal denial of educational or civil rights in their home countries. The programme aims to support individuals at risk—academically, socially, or politically—by enabling them to begin or complete a degree program at accredited higher institutions in Germany.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the DAAD Hilde Domin Scholarship, applicants must be:

  • students seeking a master’s degree, and doctoral candidates worldwide who face risk of formal or de facto denial of educational or other rights due to ethnic, gender, sexual, religious identity, or political/civic involvement
  • individuals able to prove or credibly demonstrate threats to their personal safety or well-being (such as violence, arrest, or denial of civil rights)
  • holders of educational certificates that qualify them for higher education admission, as verified through the Anabin database
  • individuals not already residing in Germany or any EU country at the time of nomination

Scholarship Benefits

Funding for selected candidates includes:

  • monthly stipend of 992 EUR for master’s students or 1,300 EUR for doctoral candidates
  • health, accident, and personal liability insurance
  • travel allowance based on the applicant’s country of origin or current residence
  • participation in a preparatory German language course (2, 4, or 6 months), depending on required language skills
  • additional financial benefits where applicable
