Kwara State University has directed staff and students at its Ilesha Baruba campus to temporarily relocate to the main campus in Malete as a cautionary step amid recent security concerns in parts of the state.

The decision follows a series of bandit attacks reported in nearby communities and comes shortly after the state government shut down schools in affected local government areas. Authorities have assured residents that efforts are underway, in collaboration with the federal government, to stabilize the situation and restore safety.

The campus in Ilesha Baruba, situated in Baruten Local Government Area, had recorded security-related disturbances before calm was restored. According to a statement released by the Acting Director of University Relations, Dr. Saeedat Aliyu, a recent assessment visit showed that the campus environment is peaceful and that both staff and students remain positive despite the relocation directive.

The university also confirmed that preparations for its 13th Convocation Ceremony—scheduled to start on December 9 and continue throughout the week—are progressing smoothly. The Ilesha Baruba community is expected to join in the convocation activities at the Malete main campus.
