A master’s degree student in the Department of Communication and Language Arts at the University of Ibadan, Kayode Bello, has alleged that the institution and its top officials have failed to comply with a Federal High Court judgment delivered in his favour.
The case, marked FHC/IB/CS/119/2024, lists the University of Ibadan; the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kayode Adebowale; Registrar, Mr. Saliu Ganiyu; Provost of the Postgraduate College, Prof. Ayo Ogunjuyigbe; Head of ICT, Mr. Ajayi Abiodun; the Postgraduate College; and the Head of his department as respondents.
Bello said Justice Evelyn Maha, in the October 17 judgment, ordered the institution to restore access to his student portal to enable him complete his registration and graduate. However, he claimed that the respondents have refused to unblock the portal.
He further stated that the court dismissed an application by the respondents seeking a stay of execution in a ruling delivered on November 14, ruling that they failed to prove any exceptional circumstances to halt the judgment.
According to Bello, although the University Senate approved his postgraduate results for graduation in 2024, his name was allegedly removed from the graduation list by the Provost of the Postgraduate College without explanation.
He added that the court also directed that his name be included in the university’s convocation list.
Bello said his portal was initially blocked in 2021, and even after securing judgment in October 2024, the institution has “continued to disregard the court’s order” by refusing to restore his access.
