The Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program was created to empower mid-career professionals who have demonstrated a strong commitment to development work. Through this program, successful applicants gain access to advanced academic training at the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS), Erasmus University Rotterdam.
The scholarship allows candidates to deepen their expertise in development studies while benefiting from a globally recognized learning environment. After completing their studies, scholars are expected to return to their home countries to contribute to sustainable development and national progress.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship 2026, applicants must:
- Be a national of a World Bank member developing country
- Not hold dual citizenship with any developed country
- Be in good health
- Hold a bachelor’s degree obtained at least three years before the application deadline
- Be employed in a full-time, paid, development-related position at the time of application
- Have a minimum of three years of development-related paid work experience after completing a bachelor’s degree

- Have an admission letter for the ISS MA in Development Studies programme
