Scholarship Details
This scholarship is designed for highly motivated graduate students who are passionate about aquatic ecology, fisheries biology, and environmental science. The selected candidates will join the research group of Dr. Cory Suski, working on research that examines the effects of environmental and human stressors on fish populations.
Graduate students will contribute to one or more ongoing research projects such as:
- Assessing the impacts of angling on individual fish
- Studying fish movement and passage around lock-and-dam structures in large rivers
Research activities will involve both fieldwork and laboratory experiments, and students will collaborate with state, federal, and industry partners. Findings will support conservation and freshwater fishery management policies.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this scholarship:
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must demonstrate:
- Experience working with fish (handling, care, or field fisheries techniques)
- Strong writing and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- A strong work ethic and research mindset
Desired Academic Background
- A Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Fisheries, or related fields (Master’s degree required for PhD applicants)
- Experience conducting research and analyzing data
- Ability to communicate scientific findings (written and oral)
- Experience with fish telemetry, fieldwork coordination, or research team leadership is an added advantage
- A valid driver’s license is required for field operations
