Africa Missions Global (AMG), a non-governmental organisation, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the British Council to strengthen teacher development programmes across Nigeria.

In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman of AMG’s Board of Trustees, Mr. Brown Oyitso, and the Country Director of the British Council in Nigeria, Ms. Donna McGowan, the agreement was formalised at the Council’s office in Lagos.

Under the MoU, AMG will incorporate the British Council’s free online training resources into its teacher development initiatives, while the Council will provide offline training customised to meet AMG’s specific needs.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Oyitso said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to improving education outcomes in Africa. He explained that the collaboration aims to build teacher skills and capacity, thereby improving classroom quality and student performance. “By combining AMG’s community reach with the British Council’s expertise, we are better positioned to support teachers and enhance classroom learning,” he said.

Ms. McGowan, on her part, reiterated the Council’s dedication to equipping teachers with the tools required to deliver quality learning. She noted that the collaboration will share open-access training resources and expertise to strengthen teacher capacity. “We work with a wide range of partners globally, but our focus remains the same: to enhance education and create opportunities that are inclusive, sustainable, and impactful,” she said.

The partnership also marked the launch of the AMG–British Council Digital Teacher Academy, which will provide a three-level certification programme – foundational, intermediate, and advanced – covering modern pedagogy, assessment methods, and school leadership.
