Scholarship Details

The School of Renewable Natural Resources at Louisiana State University Agricultural Center invites applications for one Ph.D. assistantship or one M.S. assistantship, beginning in January or May 2026 depending on candidate availability.

The selected student will work with a new research group led by Dr. Kaelyn Fogelman, focusing on the physiological and energetic responses of aquatic organisms particularly crayfish and unionid mussels to environmental stressors. Research projects may include laboratory experiments, aquaculture systems, outdoor pond studies, and fieldwork across Louisiana and the southeastern U.S. Students will also gain experience in experimental design, animal husbandry, lab analysis, and stakeholder engagement.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the Louisiana State University Scholarship 2026, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum Qualifications:
    • B.S. degree in aquatic biology, zoology, fisheries, wildlife management, or related fields
    • Research experience in laboratory or field settings
    • GPA of at least 3.0 overall or 3.5 in the last 60 hours of undergraduate courses
    • Strong written and oral communication skills
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
    • Valid U.S. driver’s license (or ability to obtain within 60 days)
    • GRE preferred but not required
    • Willingness to travel overnight and work in challenging field conditions
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Background in aquaculture or animal husbandry
    • Experience with physiological or biomarker assays (e.g., respirometry)
    • Interest in building lab environments and workflows
    • Skills in R programming, GIS, or data management
