The Senate of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has approved the academic calendar for the 2024/2025 session, announcing that the new academic year will officially commence on October 11, 2025, with the phased resumption of fresh students.
The decision was reached during the Senate’s sitting on Thursday and confirmed in a statement issued by the University’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, who assured that the institution is set for another year of “excellence, innovation, and transformative learning.”
According to the schedule, fresh students in the Faculties of Administration, Arts, Environmental Design and Management (EDM), Education, Law, and Social Sciences will move into residence on Saturday, October 11, while those in Agriculture, Basic Medical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Computing, Engineering, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Science, and Technology will resume on Sunday, October 12.
Online course registration for new students begins on October 13, followed by the Orientation Programme (October 13–17) and ICT Training (October 20–24). Returning undergraduate students are expected back on campus on Sunday, October 26, with lectures commencing on Monday, October 27. Normal course registration closes on October 31, while late registration with penalty will run from November 24 to 28.
The university’s Matriculation Ceremony has been scheduled for December 3, while the Harmattan Semester will span 13 weeks of lectures, a revision week, and examinations, running until March 2026. The Rain Semester is expected to begin on March 30, 2026.
Olarewaju reaffirmed OAU’s commitment to maintaining a structured yet flexible academic year designed to promote intellectual growth and holistic student development. He also assured both new and returning students of a smooth and enriching academic experience.
