The National Examinations Council (NECO) has reaffirmed its dedication to promoting excellence and healthy competition through the 2024 Productivity Award ceremony, which honoured both staff and top-performing students in the Senior School Certificate Examinations (SSCE) and other NECO assessments.
The event highlighted the exceptional contributions of NECO staff members and celebrated students who distinguished themselves in various examinations across the country.
In his opening remarks, NECO’s Registrar and Chief Executive, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, applauded the resilience and dedication of the council’s workforce, stressing that continuous learning and staff development are vital to advancing Nigeria’s educational system.
He noted that the award ceremony went beyond recognition, describing it as a deliberate effort to instill discipline, teamwork, ethical conduct, and a culture of continuous improvement within the organisation.
“By celebrating outstanding individuals, we send a clear message that, despite the challenges we face, excellence remains possible and must be the standard across all areas of our work,” Professor Wushishi stated.
The Registrar further emphasised that the Productivity Award reflects NECO’s mission to deliver credible, fair, and timely assessments that empower learners and safeguard the future of education in Nigeria. He acknowledged the joint contributions of staff and students in shaping a stronger educational landscape and urged young achievers to see their success as a source of inspiration to their peers.
Professor Wushishi also encouraged students who were not recognised to remain determined, assuring them that NECO will continue to provide equal opportunities, guidance, and mentorship to support their growth.
He called on staff members to renew their dedication to integrity and excellence in all aspects of operations—from grading to administration—while reminding them that public trust in Nigeria’s examination system rests on their collective commitment.
The Registrar concluded by noting that the awards symbolize the council’s belief that excellence builds confidence and strengthens national development, inspiring all stakeholders to uphold the highest standards in service to Nigerian students and the education sector at large.
