The management of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has announced a ban on all social activities on campus beyond 6:00 p.m.

The directive was contained in a statement signed by the Acting Public Relations Officer of the university, Mr. Inya Egwu.

According to the statement, the decision followed the unfortunate incident of September 12, when a businessman, Mr. Chiebonam Nweze, also known as Power-Autos, was stabbed to death during a bonfire night organized by the students’ association of the Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies.

The university explained that the event was hijacked by miscreants from a neighbouring community, leading to violence.

“Going forward, all such activities must be held strictly during the daytime and under the supervision of the University Security Unit. Social events of any kind will not be permitted on our campuses beyond 6:00 p.m.,” the statement read.

The management assured the public of its commitment to maintaining a safe and secure environment for all members of the university community, adding that every necessary measure would be taken to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
