The Zamfara State Government has distributed 408,137 teaching and learning materials to public schools across the state to improve the learning environment and educational outcomes.
Governor Dauda Lawal, who supervised the distribution, said the initiative was carried out in collaboration with the National Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and UNICEF. He noted that his administration inherited a collapsed education system and emphasized that investing in education remains the most effective way to develop the state.
The governor highlighted that the state government directly procured the 408,137 materials, describing it as one of the largest single investments in instructional resources in Zamfara’s history. He added that UBEC provided 77,609 additional learning materials, while UNICEF contributed 5,000 Climate Change and Education Early Warning Handbooks to help students build knowledge and skills for addressing environmental challenges.
Lawal commended teachers for their dedication, stressing that the effectiveness of the new resources depends on their proper use in classrooms. He also urged parents and guardians to take active roles in their children’s education by ensuring regular school attendance and academic performance.
The Executive Chairman of the Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board, Professor Nasiru Anka, praised the governor’s commitment to reviving education and acknowledged the support of donor agencies.
The distribution follows other interventions by the Lawal administration, including the conditional cash transfer programme launched on July 17 for 8,225 secondary school girls across the state’s 14 local government areas. Each beneficiary received an initial ₦40,000, with further payments of ₦60,000 per academic session. The ₦322 million initiative targets vulnerable households to support girls’ education.
The governor also introduced a Community Revolving Fund to assist grassroots environmental and economic projects in selected communities.
These measures form part of Zamfara State’s broader efforts to strengthen its education sector and provide greater opportunities for students.
