The Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, has described the launch of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) digital portal as a “game changer” and a defining moment in the nation’s education sector.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony in Abuja, Prof. Ahmad said the platform would simplify the registration and licensing of teachers nationwide, create a transparent database of qualified professionals, and provide real-time access to training and professional development.
She explained that the initiative was designed to eliminate cumbersome processes, enhance accountability, and restore dignity to the teaching profession. “Teaching in Nigeria will no longer be treated as a fallback option, but as a noble, respected, and digitally empowered profession,” she said.
The minister commended the Registrar and management of TRCN for their foresight, adding that the portal positions Nigerian teachers on the global stage by aligning the country’s education system with international best practices.
Ahmad urged stakeholders to support teachers, stressing that empowering them with digital tools and recognition is vital for building a knowledge-driven economy and securing Nigeria’s future.
Stakeholders have also expressed optimism that the platform will promote innovation, efficiency, and global competitiveness within Nigeria’s education system.
