Zamfara State has recorded an impressive 95 percent success rate in the 2025 National Common Entrance Examination, with 540 out of 567 pupils securing admission on national merit, marking a significant leap in the state’s education sector.

The report, presented by Arc. A.A. Gusau, Chairman of His Royal Highness Kabir Dan Baba Skill Acquisition Training Center, was officially received by Professor Nasir Garba Anka, Executive Chairman of the Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board (ZSUBEB).

According to the breakdown, 93 pupils gained admission into Federal Government College (FGC) Sokoto, while 188 others were admitted into FGC Anka. To build on this achievement, the state government also announced plans to establish 30 new examination centres before the next academic session, alongside the distribution of learning materials to support candidates’ preparation.

As part of the recognition of excellence, three outstanding pupils — Hauwau Isah Ahmad, Abdulwahid M. Nasir, and Maryam Muhd — have been awarded full scholarships up to university level under the NNPC/SHELL Scholarship Programme. In addition, Najibu Nazifi and Balkisu Lawal secured admission into the Gifted Programme in Jigawa State, while Maryam Aminu received personal sponsorship for further studies from philanthropist Alhaji Sambo Garba Sardaunan Gusau. Seven more pupils — three from Gusau and four from Tsafe — have also been shortlisted for the upcoming NNPC/SHELL Scholarship Examination.

Speaking after receiving the report, Professor Anka praised the performance as a reflection of the improved learning outcomes in Zamfara schools. “I congratulate all the pupils, their parents, and teachers. I also commend His Excellency, the Honourable Commissioner for Education, and everyone who contributed to this milestone,” he said.

On behalf of the awardees, Hauwau Isah Ahmad expressed appreciation to Governor Dauda Lawal, the Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Sambo Garba Sardaunan Gusau, and ZSUBEB for their unwavering support towards pupils’ education.
