Scholarship Details

The Faculty For The Future Fellowship was established in 2004 by the Schlumberger Foundation to empower women from developing and emerging economies to undertake advanced graduate study in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. Since its inception, the program has built a strong community of over 860 fellows from more than 90 countries.

The initiative’s long-term vision is to foster conditions that encourage more women to participate in STEM research and academia, thereby strengthening global scientific development. Candidates are selected from a broad list of eligible countries, taking into account factors such as education, gender equality, and scientific development.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the Schlumberger Foundation Faculty For The Future Fellowship 2025, applicants must:

  • Be female and a citizen of a developing or emerging economy where women are underrepresented in STEM fields.
  • Not hold dual citizenship with a developed country.
  • Be preparing for a PhD degree or Post-doctoral research in a STEM discipline (Master’s degrees are not funded).
  • Be enrolled, admitted, or have applied to a recognized host university or research institute abroad.
  • Hold an excellent academic record.
  • Commit to returning to their home country/region after completion of studies to contribute to socio-economic development.
  • Demonstrate a record of teaching experience and willingness to continue in:
    • Academic or research roles in STEM faculties, or
    • STEM entrepreneurship to address regional challenges, or
    • Public sector leadership through evidence-based STEM policymaking.
  • Show leadership potential, active community outreach, and a proven record of inspiring girls and women to pursue STEM.

Scholarship Benefits

Recipients of the Faculty For The Future Fellowship will receive:

  • PhD Candidates: Up to USD 50,000 per year.
  • Post-doctoral Researchers: Up to USD 40,000 per year.
  • Funding renewable annually until the completion of studies, subject to satisfactory performance.

Applications will be reviewed in multiple rounds with emphasis on:

  • Academic performance and research potential
  • Quality of references and host institution
  • Relevance of research to the home country
  • Level of commitment to return home after study
