The United Kingdom has officially opened the application window for its prestigious Chevening Scholarships, inviting interested individuals to apply between August 5 and October 7, 2025.
The Chevening Scholarship is a fully funded opportunity for a one-year master’s degree at any UK university. It targets individuals who have demonstrated leadership potential and a commitment to creating positive change within their countries and globally.
In a statement issued by the British High Commission in Abuja, Emma Hennessey, Head of the Scholarships Unit at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, emphasized the programme’s rigorous selection process. She described Chevening as a platform that selects only the most exceptional candidates worldwide.
“Chevening is known for identifying the most driven and talented individuals from across the globe. Scholars and Fellows gain not just academic knowledge, but also the confidence and global connections needed to return home and make a meaningful impact,” she said.
Hennessey urged aspiring candidates to apply if they possess strong leadership, influence, and networking skills. For those not yet ready, she encouraged them to build experience that would strengthen their future applications.
British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery, also called on Nigerians with leadership qualities to seize this opportunity.
“Chevening is more than just a scholarship — it’s a pathway into a worldwide network of change-makers and innovators,” he said. “Whether you’re interested in shaping policy, launching an enterprise, or solving global problems, this scholarship provides an exceptional chance to pursue your goals with a fully funded master’s in the UK.”
He added that the programme seeks passionate individuals with the vision and capacity to drive real transformation in Nigeria and beyond.
Montgomery encouraged eligible candidates to apply before the deadline and take the first step toward a transformative journey.
Applications are to be submitted online at chevening.org/apply. Applicants are also advised to visit chevening.org/guidance for comprehensive resources to help navigate the competitive selection process.
Since its inception in 1983, Chevening has supported over 60,000 professionals from more than 160 countries and territories. The programme is funded by the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and a range of partner organisations.
