The scholarship is open to self-funded international students who have secured an offer to study one of GDI’s eligible Master’s courses and are from selected African countries.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the University of Manchester Equity and Merit Scholarship 2026, applicants must:

  • Hold a valid admission offer for an eligible Master’s program at the University of Manchester
  • Be a resident and citizen of one of the following countries:
    • Ethiopia
    • Malawi
    • Rwanda
    • Tanzania
    • Uganda
    • Zimbabwe
  • Not have studied outside Africa previously (short training of less than 6 months does not count)
  • Possess a bachelor’s degree awarded before September 2023, with excellent academic performance (typically top 10% of the graduating class)
  • Have a minimum of two years of relevant work experience in the field (excluding voluntary or unpaid work)
  • Be committed to returning home after the program and demonstrate the ability to create positive change in your community or country
  • Clearly articulate how studying at Manchester will benefit your career goals and contribute to community development
