The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has confirmed that it will release the results of the 2025 May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) on or before Thursday, August 4.

In a statement released on Sunday, WAEC disclosed that the marking of candidates’ scripts has just been completed and preparations are in top gear for the timely release of results. This update was made public by Dr. Amos Dangut, Head of National Office, WAEC Nigeria, through a statement issued by Mrs. Moyosola Adesina, the council’s Head of Public Affairs, in Lagos.

The clarification came in response to a widely circulated false report on social media, which claimed that the entire 2025 WASSCE had been cancelled due to widespread examination malpractice and leaked questions. WAEC firmly denied any such cancellation, branding the report as fake news and urging the public to disregard it entirely.

“Our attention has been drawn to a fake press statement alleging the cancellation of all the papers written during the 2025 WASSCE for School Candidates,” the council stated. “The said press release, dated July 19, 2025, claims that the Federal Ministry of Education, in collaboration with WAEC, cancelled the exams due to coordinated malpractice and digital leaks. We wish to clearly state that this report did not originate from WAEC.”

The council described the viral message as the handiwork of mischief-makers attempting to tarnish its image and create confusion among candidates and stakeholders. WAEC emphasized that there was no truth to the claims and that the examination results remain valid and will soon be made available.

“As a matter of fact, the marking of scripts has just concluded, and results will be released on or before Thursday, August 4, 2025,” the council reiterated.

WAEC further advised students, parents, and the general public to rely only on its official and verified social media channels and accredited media platforms for accurate information. It also noted that all authentic press statements are issued and signed by its Public Affairs Department on behalf of the Head of National Office.

The council urged the public to disregard the viral misinformation and remain calm as results are being finalized for release.
