The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has announced plans to increase the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools to improve the scheme’s mobilisation process.

Speaking at the 2025 Batch ‘B’ pre-mobilisation workshop held on Monday in Abuja, Nafiu said the NYSC will also continue training its mobilisation officers in key areas such as data verification, error resolution, emergency response, and cybersecurity, especially for staff handling sensitive information.

He explained that these efforts are in response to rising threats and cyberattacks targeting the NYSC’s mobilisation system. The workshop, themed “Strengthening the NYSC Mobilisation Process Through Improved Technology and Collaboration,” brought together stakeholders to discuss reforms and new strategies.

Nafiu emphasised that updating the mobilisation process is crucial due to changes in society, stating that the NYSC must adapt its operations to current realities. He said the organisation believes that leveraging technology, building partnerships, investing in infrastructure, and developing staff skills would increase efficiency, improve the experience of prospective and serving corps members, and uphold NYSC’s role in national development.

He called on all partners, especially corps-producing institutions, to accelerate technological upgrades to ensure smooth and effective collaboration. He urged everyone involved to prioritise integrity, innovate for greater efficiency, and work together toward national progress, adding that with technology and cooperation, the NYSC can build a secure, efficient, and service-driven mobilisation system.

The Director-General also acknowledged that despite efforts to modernise the mobilisation process in line with developments in Nigeria’s educational landscape, the NYSC continues to face challenges. These include mismatched data from institutions, submission of unqualified or part-time graduates, technical issues that cause delays, and attempts to falsify records.

Meanwhile, the Director of Corps Mobilisation, Mohammed Abubakar, described the workshop as an opportunity for the NYSC, corps-producing institutions, and other stakeholders to discuss ways to strengthen the mobilisation process.

Abubakar noted that although the NYSC has achieved significant progress through collaboration, there remains a need to address fraudulent uploads of unqualified graduates. He stressed the importance of vigilance and proactive measures to maintain the integrity of the process and urged participants to handle their responsibilities with diligence and ensure the accurate upload of prospective corps members’ information.
