The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has resumed the disbursement of student upkeep allowances following the resolution of technical delays associated with digital-only banking platforms.
In a statement released on Friday, the Fund’s Director of Corporate Communications, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, announced that more than 3,600 students who were previously affected have now received their outstanding payments after updating their banking details via the NELFUND portal.
The delay, she explained, was due to initial registrations using digital wallet accounts that were incompatible with NELFUND’s payment system. Targeted efforts were made to resolve the issue, allowing eligible students to receive their funds through traditional commercial bank accounts.
“We sincerely appreciate the patience and cooperation of all students affected by this delay,” Oluwatuyi said. “Your understanding has been instrumental in achieving this progress.”
She also shared important guidance for students who have yet to receive their allowances. Those still using digital-only bank accounts are encouraged to submit a support ticket through the official NELFUND portal to gain access to update their banking information. Additionally, institutions’ IT departments can help by gathering unresolved cases and forwarding them to NELFUND for further processing.
The Fund emphasized that this development is part of a larger initiative to streamline its payment processes and enhance service delivery. Oluwatuyi reaffirmed NELFUND’s commitment to ensuring that every qualified student receives the financial support they are entitled to.
“We urge all students to engage only through verified NELFUND channels and to support fellow students who may need help navigating the update process,” she added.
The upkeep allowance disbursement remains a central aspect of NELFUND’s mission to provide accessible and sustainable financial aid to students in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
