Aisha Garba, Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), has underscored the critical importance of collaboration, innovation, and strategic planning in enhancing the delivery of quality basic education across Nigeria.
Speaking at the KADA EduPACT International Summit 2025 held in Kaduna, Garba stressed UBEC’s unwavering commitment to building inclusive and sustainable education systems that empower learners, improve educational outcomes, and ensure that no child is left behind. Her remarks were contained in a statement released on Thursday by UBEC’s Public Relations Officer and Protocol, Mr. David Apeh.
Garba highlighted UBEC’s pivotal role in fortifying Nigeria’s basic education sector through coordinated and strategic initiatives. She also praised the strong partnership between UBEC and the Kaduna State Government, noting significant strides made in tackling long-standing educational challenges.
She commended Kaduna State for its progress in expanding access to education and particularly for achieving a substantial reduction in the number of out-of-school children. Garba further applauded the state governor’s dedication and the influence of purposeful leadership in bringing more children—especially those from vulnerable backgrounds—into the school system and ensuring they receive quality education.
Addressing summit participants, Garba shared updates on ongoing reforms within UBEC aimed at boosting the commission’s effectiveness and responsiveness nationwide.
“These reforms encompass curriculum renewal, strengthening teacher capacity, enhancing accountability mechanisms, and integrating technology into teaching and learning processes,” she explained.
She emphasised that UBEC’s initiatives are carefully designed to align with national priorities while being responsive to the unique contexts and needs of local communities.
The statement noted that Garba’s engagement at the summit demonstrated UBEC’s steadfast dedication to transformative education and its belief in the power of partnerships to drive meaningful change.
“Through continued collaboration with state governments and stakeholders, UBEC is determined to ensure that the promise of basic education reaches every Nigerian child,” Garba affirmed.
