The Harvard Radcliffe Fellowship Program annually supports 50 exceptional individuals whose work demonstrates outstanding achievement and the potential to make significant contributions in their fields and beyond.
Radcliffe fellows are drawn from diverse fields—science, engineering, social sciences, humanities, arts, and public life. During their fellowship year, they pursue ambitious projects, engage with a vibrant intellectual community, and contribute to the rich interdisciplinary environment at Harvard.
The program promotes engaged scholarship and creativity, encouraging fellows to challenge conventions, develop new tools and methods, and explore pressing questions in innovative ways.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the Harvard University Radcliffe Fellowship:
Applicants in Humanities and Social Sciences must:
- Have earned a doctorate or appropriate terminal degree (PhD, MD, JD) in their project area at least two years prior to appointment (i.e., by December 2023 for the 2025–26 cycle)
- Have published a monograph or at least two refereed journal articles or edited collection chapters
Applicants in Science, Engineering, and Mathematics must:
- Have earned a doctorate in the proposed project field by December 2023
- Have published at least five refereed journal articles (most fellows in these fields have published many more)
Applicants in the Creative Arts must meet discipline-specific requirements:
- Film and Video: A significant independent body of work exhibited in galleries, museums, festivals, or broadcast
- Visual Arts: At least five years as a professional artist with several curated group shows and two solo exhibitions
- Fiction/Nonfiction:
- One or more published books, or
- A signed book contract, or
- At least three substantial published works
- Poetry: At least 20 published poems or one book of poetry in the last five years and currently completing a manuscript
- Journalism: Minimum of five years professional experience as a journalist
- Playwriting: Several produced plays or works currently under option
- Music Composition: A PhD or DMA is desirable but not required; must show professional achievement and recent performances
