Program Details
The African Union Innovating Education in Africa program is designed to generate, validate, and scale effective solutions to persistent education and training challenges. Since its launch, the program has engaged over 1,500 education stakeholders, promoted 180 innovations, and provided up to $1 million USD in both technical and financial support to integrate high-impact solutions into public education systems.
This year’s call invites innovators to submit practical education innovations that demonstrate potential for sustainability, scalability, and replication across African countries. The African Union aims to mobilize forward-thinking education innovators to address critical education and skills development gaps across the continent.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the African Union Innovating Education in Africa program, applicants must:
- Be a citizen of an African Union Member State
- Lead an organization that is:
- Successfully implementing an educational innovation in at least one AU Member State with measurable outcomes
- Offering a product or service that uses a distinct approach relevant to the African context to tackle education system challenges
- Legally registered and licensed to operate in an AU Member State
- Directly responsible for managing and executing the innovation (not acting as a third-party intermediary)
Program Benefits
Successful applicants will benefit from:
- Grants of up to $50,000 USD for three selected winners to enhance the integration of their innovations into public education systems and collect evidence of their effectiveness
- Promotion of the innovation to AU Member States and Development Partners through the Africa Education Innovations Handbook 2025
- Certificate of Recognition from the Commissioner of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation of the African Union
Required Documents
To apply, candidates must be prepared to submit the following documents in either English or French:
- A brief statement (100 words) describing the education challenge being addressed
- A description of the innovation, including its function, implementation strategy, and revenue model (less than 500 words)
- A report detailing the performance and measurable outcomes of the innovation (less than 500 words)
- Proof of business registration and operating license
