The North East Development Commission (NEDC), in partnership with the Yobe State Government, has commenced a new phase of teacher training to revitalize the region’s education sector, which has suffered setbacks due to prolonged conflict and insurgency.

The training, which is currently underway at the Federal College of Education (Technical), Potiskum, brings together 200 educators from various schools across the Yobe South Senatorial District. It is a week-long capacity-building workshop focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Agriculture (STEMA), as well as effective teaching and learning methodologies.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Managing Director of NEDC, Mohammed Alkali—represented by the Yobe State Coordinator, Ali Ibrahim Abbas—said the training aims to equip teachers and school administrators with innovative strategies to foster problem-solving skills and practical learning in classrooms.

“We want to enhance teachers’ capacity toward imparting quality knowledge to our students and pupils. NEDC will continue to complement the efforts of the state government,” he said.

Also present at the event was the Yobe State Commissioner of Basic and Secondary Education, Professor Abba Idris Adam, who praised the initiative and urged participants to adopt modern teaching approaches that encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and inclusiveness among both teachers and learners.

Participants at the workshop expressed gratitude for the training opportunity, which is being facilitated by Spider Network Consultancy Services. The workshop will feature hands-on sessions, group discussions, and interactive modules designed to transform classroom instruction and boost educational outcomes in the region.
