Niger State Governor Umaru Bago has announced scholarships for five pupils from a public school in the state who represented Nigeria in an international debate competition held in Indonesia, where they emerged winners.
The announcement was made during a presentation of the trophy and the pupils at the Government House in Minna. The scholarship will cover their education from secondary school through tertiary level, with opportunities for further studies overseas for exceptional performers.
Governor Bago praised the pupils for their outstanding achievement, saying it has brought pride to both the state and the country.
In addition to the scholarships, the governor promised to award each participant’s parents N500,000 and N5 million to the officials who led the team to the competition.
In a separate event, students from the Niger State School for Special Education presented a trophy they won at the National Deaf Secondary Schools Football Championship held in Nasarawa State. Governor Bago congratulated the team and pledged ongoing support for the students.
