The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has honoured Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) with its prestigious Corporate Merit Award, recognising the institution as the leading producer of certified and chartered accountants in the country.
The award was presented during ICAN’s 2025 Awards and Dinner Night held on Saturday in Lekki, Lagos State.
In a statement issued by the Head of YABATECH’s Public Relations Unit, Mr. Adekunle Adams, ICAN acknowledged the college’s consistent track record in producing top-performing accounting graduates, many of whom go on to qualify as chartered accountants.
Adams highlighted that YABATECH was the venue for ICAN’s first-ever professional examination, underscoring the historic bond between the institution and the professional body.
Receiving the award on behalf of the college, the Rector of YABATECH, Dr. Ibraheem Abdul, expressed gratitude for the recognition. He described the honour as a humbling experience and pledged that the institution would continue to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of the accounting profession in Nigeria.
“I appreciate the body for organising this event to celebrate members, associates, and organisations who have distinguished themselves in the accounting profession,” Abdul said.
The President of ICAN and 60th occupant of the position, Mr. Davidson Alaribe, who is also an alumnus of YABATECH, described the award as a recognition of the college’s immense contributions to the growth and development of the profession. He noted that the honour was also meant to encourage the institution to maintain and surpass its current standards.
